"Fresh, organic and sustainable that’s it”

Ole Nørby, owner of Nørbys Grøntsager farm

Nørbys Grøntsager farm

Nørbys Grøntsager is an organic farm with 24 hectares of land. They have a wide variety of crops with approximately 50 different vegetables and fruit, grown throughout the year. The farm is located near Stevns which is an hour drive south of Copenhagen.

Nørbys Grøntsager farm is run by the owner Ole Nørby and his family with the assistance of apprentice farming students. Initially Ole trained as an electrician, but in the 90’s he found a new direction and started training as a freelance gardener. By 1998, Ole together with his wife Karen took over the family farm after his father Poul Nørby. With a new generation at the reins, they spent the next five years converting the farm over to organic production. In the meantime Ole and Karen grew their family with two boys, Rasmus and Peter. Today Ole Nørby and his family have a successful farming business striving to inspire and guide small organic producers in Denmark.

Oles’ background as an electrician can be seen in the farm's energy supply. Nørbys Grøntsager is largely powered from sustainable energy, much of it produced on-site. Ole has harnessed the use of wind turbine, solar panels for electricity and solar collectors for heating supply. Overall the farm produces more green energy than it consumes and can therefore return the excess back into the grid .

Aside from reducing their carbon footprint, Ole has implemented several farming techniques which serve to revitalise and create more fertile soil. By reducing the level of soil cultivation and external fertilisers, Nørbys Grøntsager are on track to completely phasing out conventional livestock manure.

As a member of FællesGro, you are helping to expand organic agricultural in Denmark, allowing a new generation of farmers like Ole to expand their production. In addition to delivering vegetables to members of FællesGro, Nørby's Grøntsager has a well-stocked farm shop. Aside from the vegetable production, the farm is also home to a large population of egg laying chickens, whose main task is to keep the parents' orchard clean and deliver eggs their many customers. During the autumn season, FællesGro will arrange excursions to Nørby Grøntsager, so that you as a member can meet Ole and experience the farm.
